OVERVIEW
If you’ve ever wanted to lock eyes with a wild mountain gorilla in its natural habitat, this is where it happens. Our 3-day gorilla trekking safari from Kampala takes you into the depths of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that protects almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
This short yet powerful Bwindi gorilla trekking tour suits wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and travellers who want a focused Uganda safari without rushing the experience. Expect dramatic countryside views, meaningful conservation stories, and an encounter that stays with you long after you leave the forest.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Your 3-day Bwindi gorilla safari begins early. After a pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe International Airport, your driver-guide will outline the journey and what to expect over the next few days.
We head southwest through Masaka with a stop at the Uganda Equator for photos and a brief stretch. The road then winds past tea estates, trading centres, and open farmland before a lunch break in Mbarara.
From there, the landscape shifts as we approach Kabale, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa” for its steep terraced hills. The final stretch leads into Bwindi’s forested slopes. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your lodge and settle in, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, we transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed pre-trek briefing. Rangers explain trekking protocols, safety guidelines, and how to behave around the gorillas.
Trekkers are divided into small groups of up to eight people and assigned a habituated gorilla family within one of Bwindi’s sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, or Nkuringo. The hike can last anywhere between 2 and 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain.
When you finally find them, time slows down. For one hour, you observe their daily lives up close. Young ones tumble through vines. Adults feed quietly. A silverback watches everything. It is raw, unscripted, and deeply humbling.
After the trek, you’ll receive a gorilla trekking certificate before returning to your lodge to rest.
