3 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking
OVERVIEW
Rwanda offers one of the most accessible mountain gorilla experiences in Africa. Within just a few hours of Kigali, the mist-covered slopes of Volcanoes National Park shelter families of endangered mountain gorillas living deep within bamboo forests and volcanic valleys.
This short safari focuses entirely on that moment — trekking through ancient rainforest to spend time face-to-face with one of the world’s most extraordinary primates. Despite its short length, the experience is intense, immersive, and unforgettable.
Your Itinerary
Day 1 – Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Your journey begins in Kigali where you meet your guide before leaving the capital behind and driving north through Rwanda’s lush hills. Terraced farms cover the slopes and small villages appear along the winding roads as the landscape gradually becomes more mountainous.
By afternoon the Virunga volcano chain rises dramatically ahead, marking the entrance to Volcanoes National Park. Your lodge sits within the forested foothills where the evening is spent settling in and preparing for tomorrow’s gorilla trek.

Day 2 – Gorilla Trekking
The morning begins at the ranger station where trackers brief visitors before entering the forest. Guided by experienced rangers, the trek follows narrow trails through bamboo forest and thick vegetation while trackers search for one of the habituated gorilla families.
Eventually the forest opens and the gorillas appear — feeding, resting, or playing quietly among the vegetation. Spending an hour observing them in their natural habitat is one of Africa’s most powerful wildlife experiences.
