12 Day Ultimate Uganda Safari Circuit

OVERVIEW

This is Uganda’s full signature circuit done properly: Murchison’s Nile and big game, Kibale’s chimpanzees, Queen Elizabeth’s predator‑rich plains, and Bwindi’s mountain gorillas — all in one flow that makes geographic sense. The route moves north to south along the Albertine Rift, so you’re not zig‑zagging, and the pacing stays realistic: a major experience each day, with enough recovery built in that the trip still feels premium by the time you reach the gorillas.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Entebbe

Arrive in Entebbe and meet your guide. Tonight is a soft landing — dinner near Lake Victoria and an early night if you want it. Tomorrow starts the northbound leg, so this buffer makes the whole circuit feel calmer and more professional from the first mile.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Hotel No.5

Mid-range: The Boma Hotel

Budget: ViaVia Guest House

Meals: Dinner

Day 2 – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary & Transfer to Murchison Falls

You drive north, stopping at Ziwa — Uganda’s only place to track rhinos on foot. Rangers lead you across open grassland reading tracks and fresh signs. Continue into Murchison Falls National Park and settle in near the Nile. The river is the spine of this landscape, and you’ll feel it immediately.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Nile Safari Lodge

Mid-range: Pakuba Safari Lodge

Budget: Red Chilli Rest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 – Game Drive & Murchison Falls Boat Safari

Morning game drives across the Buligi plains deliver the classic northern safari mix: giraffe towers, buffalo herds, elephants, and the constant possibility of lion.

In the afternoon, cruise upriver to the base of Murchison Falls. The Nile compresses into a narrow gorge and detonates into spray — a moment you feel in your chest.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Nile Safari Lodge

Mid-range: Pakuba Safari Lodge

Budget: Red Chilli Rest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Transfer to Kibale Forest

You leave the Nile valley and follow the Rift south. The scenery shifts steadily — drier savannah gives way to greener hills and tea country near Fort Portal.

Arrive on the edge of Kibale Forest with time to settle in. The air is cooler here, and the forest feels alive even when you’re standing still.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Kyaninga Lodge

Mid-range: Turaco Treetops

Budget: Kibale Forest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 – Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale

This morning is for chimpanzees: fast movement through the canopy, loud calls, and bursts of energy that make tracking them feel electric.

The afternoon is intentionally flexible — crater lakes, a quiet community visit, or simple lodge time with the forest right there in front of you.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Kyaninga Lodge

Mid-range: Turaco Treetops

Budget: Kibale Forest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

A short, scenic drive brings you from forest to Rift Valley savannah, passing crater lakes and wide views that open up as you descend.

Arrive in Queen Elizabeth with time for an afternoon game drive. The light at this hour is when the park looks its best — and when animals start moving again.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Elephant Plains Lodge

Mid-range: Kasenyi Safari Camp

Budget: Bush Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 – Game Drive & Kazinga Channel

You’re out early on the Kasenyi plains, scanning for lion and leopard sign while large kob and buffalo herds feed across the grasslands.

Later, the Kazinga Channel boat safari delivers close wildlife without chasing it — hippos, crocodiles, elephants and dense birdlife along the banks.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Elephant Plains Lodge

Mid-range: Kasenyi Safari Camp

Budget: Bush Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8 – Ishasha & Transfer to Bwindi

You travel through Ishasha, a quieter sector where the landscape feels wilder and the tree‑climbing lions are the headline act when luck is on your side.

Continue into Bwindi’s highlands and settle into your lodge on the forest edge. The air turns cool and damp — you’re in gorilla country now.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp

Mid-range: Mahogany Springs Lodge

Budget: Buhoma Community Rest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9 – Gorilla Trekking & Optional Cultural Add‑On

After the ranger briefing, you trek into Bwindi in a small group, guided by trackers who locate gorillas daily. The terrain is real — steep sections, slick roots, thick vegetation.

Your hour with the gorillas is the centerpiece of the entire circuit. If you return early enough, you can add a short, community‑led cultural visit in the afternoon (optional). Otherwise, the smartest luxury is rest.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp

Mid-range: Mahogany Springs Lodge

Budget: Buhoma Community Rest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10 – Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Today you leave the rainforest and cross into Ankole’s cattle country — rolling hills, ranchlands, and long‑horned herds that define the region.

Arrive in Lake Mburo with time for an afternoon game drive, boat cruise, or simply to enjoy the lodge views over acacia woodland and open grassland.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Mihingo Lodge

Mid-range: Rwakobo Rock

Budget: Eagle’s Nest

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 11 – Walking Safari & Mburo Exploration

Start on foot with a ranger while the air is cool and animals are active. It’s one of Uganda’s best places to do this safely, and it’s a different kind of thrill.

Spend the afternoon however you like: another drive, a boat ride, or slow lodge time. This day exists to make the ending feel like safari — not a marathon back to the airport.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Mihingo Lodge

Mid-range: Rwakobo Rock

Budget: Eagle’s Nest

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 – Morning Safari & Return to Entebbe

One last early outing in Mburo often delivers zebra against golden grass, giraffe silhouettes, and the quiet rhythm of a small park waking up.

Then it’s back to Entebbe with a stop at the Equator for photos and lunch. Arrive in time for your outbound flight or a final night in Entebbe if you prefer a buffer.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
