8 Day Murchison Falls & Kibale Safari

OVERVIEW

This journey is built around Uganda’s strongest contrast: wide-open savannah where predators hunt at dawn, followed by the hushed intensity of meeting a wild mountain gorilla in an ancient rainforest. It starts in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where the Rift Valley floor is alive with elephant, buffalo and lion, then climbs south into Bwindi’s highland forest for the defining primate encounter.

To finish, Lake Mburo slows the pace in the best way — acacia woodland, zebra herds, and the rare chance to experience the bush on foot or horseback. It’s a clean, logical route with breathing room, and it ends by breaking the long return drive back to Entebbe into something that still feels like a safari.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Entebbe

Touch down in Entebbe and meet your private guide. The evening is deliberately easy — Lake Victoria air, a quiet dinner, and time to reset after travel.

If you arrive early, you can add a gentle intro to Uganda with a sunset stroll by the lake or a short visit to the botanical gardens. Tomorrow, the real wilderness begins.

Day 2 – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary & Transfer to Murchison Falls

You drive north and stop at Ziwa to track rhinos on foot with rangers — a rare experience in Uganda and a strong way to start the trip.

Day 3 – Game Drive & Murchison Falls Boat Safari

At first light you explore the Buligi plains, where giraffe, elephant and buffalo dominate the savannah and lions patrol the kob herds.

In the afternoon, take the boat upriver to the base of the falls — calm water tightening into a narrow gorge before erupting into thunder and spray.

Day 4 – Nile Delta Boat Safari

This morning you head toward the Nile Delta where the river meets Lake Albert — one of Uganda’s best birding areas and the right habitat for the shoebill.

Return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon. If you want more wilderness time, an evening game drive can be added depending on energy levels.

Luxury: Nile Safari Lodge

Mid-range: Murchison River Lodge

Budget: Fort Murchison (tented rooms)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 – Transfer to Kibale Forest

You travel south along the Rift, watching the landscape turn greener as you approach Fort Portal’s tea estates and crater-lake country.

Arrive near Kibale Forest and settle into your lodge on the forest edge, where primate calls and birdlife carry through the evening.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Primate Lodge

Mid-range: Isunga Lodge

Budget: Kibale Forest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 – Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale

Early morning trekking in Kibale is pure atmosphere — towering trees, tangled vines, and the sense that the forest is watching you back.

When the chimpanzees appear, everything speeds up: calls, movement, and social drama in the canopy just above your head.

Accommodation:

Luxury: Primate Lodge

Mid-range: Isunga Lodge

Budget: Kibale Forest Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 – Bigodi Wetland & Crater Lakes

Bigodi is a community-run wetland sanctuary with superb birdlife and excellent monkey sightings along an easy, rewarding trail.

Later, explore the crater-lake landscapes around Fort Portal — steep green rims, still water, and wide views that feel like a different Uganda again.

Day 8 – Return to Entebbe

One last early outing in Mburo often delivers zebra against golden grass, giraffe silhouettes, and the quiet rhythm of a small park waking up.

Then it’s back to Entebbe with a stop at the Equator for photos and lunch. Arrive in time for your outbound flight or a final night in Entebbe if you prefer a buffer.
